   This  painting is an illustration for  Zariah's forthcoming
storybook novel:
THE WISHING  SPIRAL


Maile is the Hawaiian girl playing with her new golden veil, pictured in the illustration "Wish Upon a Sea Star."  At her eleventh birthday party, she becomes enraptured by the magic she feels and sees flowing all around within the veil.  When she glimpses a tiny mermaid leaping from the miniature ocean wave foaming up from  within  a spiral of  embroidered ribbon, she makes a Wish that the mermaid were "real." Because of the certain way in which she wishes it--a secret which she has yet to discover--her Wish comes true, and all sorts of things that she was imagining within the glowing swirls of silk and ribbon begin to grow out and come alive...
